What is a cause of my pygmy goats horns wearing away?

They are 4 months old and have the outsides of their horns wearing away as if the outer layer is pealing off. They roam free in a pasture, and get sweet feed 1-2 times per day. Is this normal?

Chances are the horns are getting bigger. Although pygmies love sweet feed, they also need hay and salt blocks. Sweet feed is extremely fattening and pygmies tend to hide their weight well. It is hard to tell if they are getting too fat. Also, they sell horn and hoof protectants at local feed stores; however, your goats are fairly young and using this on babies may not be recommended.
Reply:For most goats this happens when their horns grow larger. But the sweet feed 2 times a day is a little much. Try to mix regular goat feed or dry feed with it. Too much sweet feed can cause very bad problems. One more thing is a salt block and/or trace menerial block
Reply:ask your vet or something
